Sunset at Thorpe Hill Summit Dovedale – Peak District & Stepping Stones

As I hadn’t been a night away in my camper for awhile, after working on a job went up to Dovedale in the peak district, as was only 40mins away to there and if would have gone home would have been 30mins , so thought why not and enjoy an evening away. The weather was great so the perfect time, watch the video below or read on.

I had used park4night to find a park up which i pulled in , but noticed that the national trust car park for Dovedale and the stepping stones was only 4mins away, so went to that car park. You do have to pay though for national trust members parking is free you just have to scan your membership card.

After having something to eat I walked down to the stepping stones, it does say they are closed but this is only from a little a frame board saying that, but there was so many people around and really everyone was crossing, so I went across and even with me walking with my stick was ok, though two of them were slightly loose. My idea then was to go up the hill for sunset and hopefully get some good photos, so walked back on myself along the river. There was the route to go up to Thorpe hill summit, some of the paths had signs saying closed, but this path took you all the way round, so was hard going getting to the top, but it was well worth it.

I had got to the top around 40mins before sunset, there wasn’t that many colours in the sky, but still was an amazing view. There was a few others at the top and was more peaceful than down below. It was really nice just to sit back and relax and watch the sun go down, I took a few photos, but for once photography wasn’t the main reason for coming here was just to take it all in.

After the sun had set made my way down, this time a different way, which was a bit steeper, but then brought you right by the stepping stone, so should have gone that way in the first place, but then wouldn’t have had the views from the other side. Was just a little walk back to the camper. You couldn’t stay the night in that car park so moved back to my original spot and stelled down for the night.

Wasn’t the best nights sleep as couldn’t settle as was hot and my back was in bit, did set an alarm for early to get out for sunrise, but ended up getting up a bit latter just before sunrise, so to make the most of it drove the camper back down to the Dovedale carpark, and scanned my membership card and walked down to the stepping stones.

It was really nice as had the place to myself but unfortunately the weather had other ideas as was forecast to rain the next day and it did, so just went back to camper and had breakfast and as i wanted something warm i had a pot noodle not the best thing for breakfast but it was nice.

Unfortunately my back was really hurting so took me a while to be able to drive back and I was in a lot of pain, but I really did enjoy the evening and the little break, to be honest was the best time I’ve had for a while despite the pain.

Here are a few of the photos I took on this night out, not my best, but it didn’t matter to me, and I hope you enjoyed the video and if you aren’t already please subscribe to the YouTube channel and give the video a liked if you enjoyed it.
