My Walk Around Brownhills Canal Festival – August 2024

Aug 17, 2024

The 3rd weekend in August every year is the Brownhills Canal Festival, This year it is between the 17th – 18th August between 10am – 4pm. I have liven around the Brownhills area most of my life, so thought it would be a good idea to do a video about it for my YouTube Channel, see the video below:

This year there was a bit of a scare on the canal network with the spillage of sodium cyanide from a Walsall business into the canal, which affected around 12 miles of the canal network, including Perry Barr, Ryders green, Rushall and Walsall. The environmental agency and the waterways trust closed off locks and advised people to avoid certain areas of the canal network and are dealing with the spillage. Lucky the affect water didn’t affect the canal in Brownhills.

Well the canal festival is organised by the Lichfield and Hatherton Canal trust. There are boats selling all different items including handmade crafts, also stall for charity’s and other businesses. With food and drinks available from different vendors. The main attraction is the canal boats / barges not sure what defines each one.

The condition and restoration that must have gone into some of them is amazing, and everyone is so friendly telling you about the history of there boat and showing basically there home off. If you aren’t interested in homemade crafts or things like that it is worth going just to see the boats.

Also outside the Methodist church there are some classic cars which you may not even know about if you just walked down the canal on silver street, There are all sorts of cars some from the 80’s and 90’s which takes me back to some of the car I owned in the past, there is even an old bus, again people that have classic cars like to show off the work they have done.

It is great to still see local event like this it is great for the family. The Brownhills canoe center is also open so you can go on a canoe etc, not my thing but would be nice for the kids. I spent just under 2hrs looking around, though for me was mainly just to film so could share, but I did enjoy looking around and at some of the beautifully boats.

If you enjoyed my video please give it a like and Subscribe to my YouTube channel as I normally go out in my little micro camper ands do photography trips even though I have a spinal problem.
