Royal Mail Retro Gaming Stamps

ByKevin Simon

Jan 8, 2020

Now I’m not one for collecting stamps though my late father did always get the 1st day covers, but the first one of 2020 I will be getting as Royal Mail are releasing on 21st January new special edition stamps based on gaming from the 80’s and 90’s

There are 12 stamps in total in two sections the special stamps which have 8 and the miniature sheet with images from different tomb raider games. You can get the presentation pack which has information about each game in a nice looking pack for £14.25. You can pre order from Royal mail or get from post offices when available on 21st January

From the special stamps there are games that I loved playing when I was a bit younger. The Dizzy games were some of my favorites on the Amiga, especially treasure Island dizzy spent hours and hours playing that one. Even writing this now have got the music in my head. Now Lemming is one of those great games that everyone from that era has played. I remember getting stuck on certain levels and the frustration that followed and then you work it out and was so happy. Micro machines I used to play a bit, though for racing games did prefer front view than over head games, though this one was great with friends. Worms even to this day is a great game to play with friends, though afterwards you may not be friends 🙂

Elite, Populous, I did play but not my favorites. Wipeout as I didn’t have a PS1, but played when got a PSP and loved it now revisited the original through emulation, music and speed is the best. Now I’m not into football at all so never got into sensible soccer.

Now what can you say about tomb raider was a game changer when it first came out, though if you now go back to the originals the controls system now shows it age. Though the reboot in 2013 as soon as that came out I got it and completed , then when rise of the tomb raider came out I completed that 100%. Installed on my PC is shadow of the tomb raider though this is a game that have got to get around to playing. Such great games, love the exploring of the games.

So these stamps bring back memories for me, I’m glad that gaming now isn’t seen as a geeky things to be doing as it was when I was younger. I wrote about my history with gaming you can read HERE
