For regular readers to this blog, know that when one of the newspapers do the promotions with free Lego sets, I get these sets and take pictures of them in different settings, see HERE. Well on November 12th the Lego group tweeted that they will no longer be giving away sets within the Daily Mail newspaper.
The Daily Mail was the latest paper to take over these promotions as a few years ago was mainly the Daily Mirror, then sometimes the Sun. This decision from Lego seems to with social media campaign “Stopfundinghate” because of the political views of the newspaper.
The Lego Group tweeted “@StopFundingHate We have finished the agreement with The Daily Mail and are not planning any future promotional activity with the newspaper”
Myself personally I don’t buy any newspaper, and when these promotions were on I only used to buy the papers for the Lego, as did work out reasonable value for the polybag set. Sometimes had to get at least 3 newspapers so that each of the kids could have a set. I would get the papers remove the tokens if they hadn’t been crossed out and give the papers to passersby as I left the shop. I never read the newspaper but kept at least one, mainly for filling packaging for the stuff I sell on ebay.
This isn’t the first time Lego have disbanded associations with companies. As in 2014 because of a Greenpeace campaign about Artic oil reserves, Lego group ended it association with Shell.
So personally no great loss for me, though again was nice to get some different polybags when they were in the paper. The last lot they did over two weekends a few weeks ago, to be honest didn’t even know the offer was on, Only realised on the last Sunday and got the frozen beach set.
