The one thing I have wanted to do for a while is to be out in the camper in a proper thunderstorm, to listen to the rain hitting the roof of the camper while relaxing inside. Well the other month I had the chance as the one Saturday afternoon, I had been bad with my back which meant there wasn’t that much I could do so was having a day doing some video editing, which I have to take breaks and lie down for a bit , then on my tablet there was an alert for the Met office app for heavy rain , thunder and lighting late afternoon and throughout the night.

So I quickly grabbed my camera gear and jumper in the camper. Within 20 mins from my home is Cannock chase woodland. So I thought this would be a good place to go as there are parts that are very open. I knew of a car park to go, I had to stop off at a supermarket to get a bit of food, though got a mile or so down the road towards the car park I wanted to go, but one of the roads was completely flooded a car did go through it but was up past the bottom of the door, so I turned around but than also I realized I had forgotten the main thing went into the supermarket for was the coffee whitener, so was good thing road was flooded so could go back to the shop.
As that road was flooded I had to make a diversion, which ended up being better as I found another carpark which was more open. There was another motorhome parked up. The rain did subside for a bit so I went out for a quick walk though I didn’t get that far before the heavens opened, so had to retreat back to the camper.
With the rain coming down it was nice to just relax in the camper with the rain hitting the roof, there is just something so calming, even though there was some heavy thunder and because the camper I have has three sunroofs in the back , having the lights off and just watching the lightning.
After about 30 mins the rain did stop, so I then opened the door and just watched the lighting in the distance, though at times completely lit up the whole area, for a fraction of a second it was like daylight. I was just holding my camera filming in slow mo, so again if you haven’t seen the video above. Have a watch as did a compilation of around 1 min of just the thunder and lighting.
After the storm had passed, I just got back to relaxing and getting a good night’s sleep. The next morning again it was raining, but I did try to go out for some photography , though I wasn’t feeling it.
Even though this was just one evening out in the camper only 20 mins away from home I really enjoyed it.
