Conkers Outdoor Play Visit
We went to Conkers a outdoor adventure attraction on bank holiday Monday. It is described as “enter a world of adventure & discovery at the heart of the national forest” Conkers is in Moira, just by Ashby-de-la-zouch in Derbyshire, prices at time of visit was £7.95 adult and £5.95 children, if you book online at the moments you can get ticket prices with 20% off.
It is a indoor and mainly outdoor attraction with loads to do, it is set in 120acres and in two main parts the discovery centre and the waterside centre. There is a little train that connects the two, which is great fun, though is not that far to walk between the two parts. There are loads of different outdoor play sections for children of all ages, with even a assault cause for the over 13’s. My daughter liked a part that is a creative section, basically a large sand pit with all different logs and other materials to create your own sculpture / piece of art.
The indoor discovery centre is great with the enchanted forest, this is like a indoor play area, but mainly all different things to do, with a hands on approach to learn about the animals, insects and plants that grow in a forest. It is very informative and my daughter loved this part.
There also is a large outdoor play area for the kids, this is at the waterside centre side, where there also is a covered amphitheater where they have different shows going on throughout the day.
It is great fun for both adults and children, there is a barefoot walk also, though because on the day we went, wasn’t really that warm to go along this, also because of the temperature didn’t really go round everything that day, but we will be going again in the main school holiday. Sorry for no photo’s like my other articles I write on here, as forgot my camera 🙁 I know that’s bit usual for me, but was a few misunderstanding that day, so will be looking forward to going again, as it is really worth while visiting.
UPDATE 2014 (Second Visit)
We decided to go to Conkers again, as did enjoy visiting this attraction. We got a offer for entry price called “Must See 3” the ticket costs £65 family (2x Adults, 2x Children), £25 Adult and £15 Child. This covers three attractions: Conkers, Snibston and the National Space museum. We have visited Snibston before aswell see HERE for review, but not the space centre, so thought it was a good offer as your are essentially getting one attraction free. See HERE for details on this offer.
This time we went the weather was great, so we did get to go around fully. We used the old steam train to get from the one part of the discovery centre to the other, this runs about every 10mins, though you can walk through the woodlands walks.
This time we did do the full assault course, our daughter, my niece and even myself 🙂 The missus didn’t do all of it as she doesn’t like heights and some parts are high, I’m not a fan of heights but did really enjoy the assault course.
We went through the two mazes that are on the site, the main large one was fun, but does take awhile to get through, though you can cheat by going through the hedges that have gaps in them.
Our daughter and my niece also did the full bear foot walk, was a bit muddy, but at the end is a little building to wash and dry your feet, which is good.
We took a packed lunch with us, but there are two main cafes to eat in, prices are reasonable for a normal attraction.
This time going to Conker I did take my camera so see some of the photos below. We had a really nice time at Conkers this time and I would highly recommend a visit or two, as you could go a few times and still would be fun, to enjoy the outside activities you really do need good weather. But inside there are loads of things to do as well.
