Mottistone Gardens
Mottistone Gardens is on the south coast of the Isle of Wight and is part owned by the National Trust, Entrance is £5.80 Adults, £2.90 Children, £14.50 Family (non gift aid prices). This is for the gardens only as Mottistone Manor is only open twice a year as is still lived in. “prices quoted are from the date of our visit please check official website for upto date pricing HERE “ Though for us as national trust members entrance was free.
On the day of our visit the weather was a bit chilly and unfortunately for me my asthma was really causing me a lot of problems and I was having trouble breathing, so we didn’t spend as much time looking around as I would have liked we were there around half an hour. On site there is a shop and a tea gardens. The manor house does look a lovely well kept house.
We mainly walked around the rose garden and the double herbaceous borders. The lower garden section which is a large open space with beautiful borders full of lovely plants. In the middle is a turf maze, ie the maze is laid out in longer grass, so no chance of getting lost in this maze 🙂
It would have been nice to have spent a little more time looking around the garden and relaxing taking in the gorgeous borders. Also walking down the gully and the avenue. We did miss out on finding the flowerpot people on the trail and not looking at the shack. But we did enjoy the short visit to Mottistone Gardens, though this is more an attract for adults than children unless they are into nature etc. Below are some of the photos that I had taken on our visit.

Compton Bay & Downs
Also just under 2 miles away is Compton Bay and Downs, which is managed by the National Trust. There is a lovely coast walk with amazing views of the multi coloured cliffs. You have access to the beach and other walks. Because of my asthma I only took a short relaxed walk along the top of the cliffs, though there was so much to see as the way the area is managed you do see a lot of butterflies and I did see loads of grasshoppers. Unfortunately I didn’t have the energy to get that many photos.
