Breakdown of Complete Pond Service

KS Pond Services breakdown of our full pond clean and service. Depending on the size of the pond and the last time was cleaned does determine the time taken to fully clean and service your pond. Though the average garden pond will be fully done within 6-7hrs.

Upon arrival the first thing is to quickly check the pond and water quality, then switch any pumps and uvs off. We then set up Custom vats to hold the water, we have different sizes or vats though the main ones we use are approx 6ft in width and will hold approx. 460 gallon (2100 Litres), So if your pond is about 1000 gallons then we will set up two of our normal vats. The water is then pumped into these vats, at this time only the water is removed as if we get the fish out now then this will disturb the water and would mean that we will be pumping out dirty water which is what we don’t want. Once the level is down low enough the fish will then be moved in to the temporary vats.

Once fish are removed out of the pond, then any plants will be removed to be cut back later. The pond will them be completely emptied of the water and debris / silt. The remaining water will either go on the plant borders as there are loads of good nutrients to feed the plants, or down any drainage available. The muck will then be removed so the pond will be fully clear.

The pool will then be pressure washed and scrubbed if needed to remove blanket weed from the liner, also any waterfall or water feature will also be cleaned in this way. Once done the pond will be emptied again, so now the pond will be completely clean.

The water will be emptied from the vats back into the pool, while also adding fresh water. At this time I will be trimming and cutting back the plants as needed and then adding back in to the pond, also cleaning out the filter boxes and changing UV lights as needed. Fully cleaning the pumps, ie taking the pumps apart to get to the impeller and fully cleaning these and then reassemble. Then the fish will then go back into the pond, I will be counting the fish and also checking the heath of the fish as they go back in.

Once this is done I will check to make sure water flow is all ok. Then I will tidy any mess that has been made and remove any plants or muck as needed. Then skim the surface of water of any floating debris. Once all this is done your pond will then be treated with chemicals (malachite green and formalin) to help if any bacteria in the water.

I run this blog & also self employed cleaning out fish ponds, but due to spinal problems not able to do as much, now started a youtube channel showing my converted Peugeot Partner micro camper also as interest in photography so now vlog about the trips and of course Lego figures out in the wild photos.

  1. Please can you take a look at my pond with a view to replace pump and clean filter etc. Thanks I’m in Kings Norton, Birmingham

  2. Very clearly written site.
You state “The remaining water will either go on the plant boarders”
    – that should be “borders” – “border” (as in national border) is different to “board” (as in plane or train)

    Hope that helps.

  3. Also, I think you should maybe make it easier for customers to contact you, rather than leaving comments on the blog. Tony, above, has posted his number on this site for the whole world to see (including your competitors).

Feel free to take both of these comments down.
