While on a day trip to Bourton-on-the-water for the bank holiday we visited the model village, we had been to the model village before but this was about 15 years ago, so thought would go back to visit as well as other attractions in the Cotswold village of Bourton on the water.
The model village was opened in 1937 and is a one ninth scale version of the village. Prices are very reasonable at Adults £3.60, Children aged 3 to 13 £2.80. There is a additional charge of £1 per person to go into the extra exhibition of Miniatures which is a exhibition of of miniature rooms and scenes with some being animated. The model village is lovely to walk around, unlike other model villages we have been to you walk around the whole town the walkways are the roadways. Thought they are a bit narrow so can be hard to really enjoy the houses if a lot of people are visiting. All the buildings are very highly detailed as well as the gardens. The Church even has all the pews which you can see through the stained glass windows or the one side is a complete window to see in.
As the model village is a scale model of Bourton on the water, it even has a model village within the model village. There is a higher vantage point of the model village that gives you a great view of the whole attraction.
There is also the Miniature Landscape Exhibition which opened in 2014. These are very highly detailed models of seven historic English cottages. Also the exhibition of miniatures which is inside. Both of these are really amazing as the detail in the models are superb.
I loved walking around the model village, though the missus and our teenage daughter did enjoy it, they are not into this as much as I am, as I love any kind of model village and have visited a fair few. If you like miniature villages and scenes you would love visiting this one and is well worth the entry price. Below are just some of the photos I took while there.
