Moseley Old Hall

We decieded as we had a free afternoon to go visit Moseley Old Hall which is located in Fordhouses, just north of Wolverhampton. Entrance prices are Adult: £6.75, Child: £3.35 and Family ticket: £16.85 this is for the whole property though for a few pound less you can just get tickets for the gardens & the woodlands.

The visit was just me and the missus as this was a school day so didnt have our daughter with us. We have a yearly national trust membership, so the visit price was free for us. To get to Moseley old hall you do go down a tight country lane, so be carefully driving there. The car park is on the opposite side of the road to the main house and gardens.

Upon entering there is a small gift shop. You then go out into the farmyard area of the estate, with a tearoom that serves sandwiches, homemade cakes, biscuits and soup. You then make your way to muster point, this is where you book your guided tour of the house and they do activity packs for the children.

To go round the house you do really have to book a guided tour, we went on a quick guided tour with a very friendly lady guide, as the normal tour takes around 50 minutes. They tell you about the history of the building and the events of King Charles ii hiding out here trying to escape parliamentary troops as there was a price on the kings head in 1651. If you are into your history you will really enjoy the tour, but if like us you just like to look around and enjoy the history yourself the tour may not be for you, but to see around the house they do like you to go on the guided tour.

Outside you have a nice little woodland walk, though this is a sample woodland walk. The mains garden again is on the smallish side, but does have a lovely box garden. You can’t walk into this garden. The gardens are really nice though if you want just to relax and enjoy the sunshine it would be a great place to visit. Though if you have children I don’t think they would enjoy the visit to much if they are not into history and learning. Though with all that said Moseley Old hall is a nice place to visit even if it is for an hour or two, but more for adults than children. We did enjoy the visit as the afternoon we went was a lovely summers day.
