Liverpool Museum & Albert Dock

Liverpool Museum

Last year while we were on holiday in Southport we decided to have a day out in Liverpool. We decided to go the Albert Docks around the dock are several museums. These are the Merseyside Maritime Museum, this incorporates the slavery museum and then just across the dock is the Museum of Liverpool. There is also the Beatles museum, though we didn’t visit this one. All the museums are free entry, for car parking we parked in the main shopping centre car park the Liverpool one, though this is a bit expenses for car parking though this was our first time in the area it seemed the best carpark to go in.

The first museum we visited was the maritime museum, the museum has three large display floors. On the first and second floor there are displays that bring Liverpool’s nautical history to life, through interactive exhibits paintings, shipwrecked objects. There are also on these two floors amazing models of ships in various sizes one i would say be a least 30ft in length. These are very highly detailed and as people may know from my site I love anything like this including model village (see my other reviews) so with these models I could have spent hours admiring the full details.

Part of the second floor is dedicated to the Titanic (the untold story), with loads of information about the ship. Also wall plaques detailing all that died in this tragedy, it is a very interesting part of the museum. The next Floor is decicated to the history of slavery with really great displays and very informative.

Just across the dock is the Museum of Liverpool, this is a very modern building and within the entrance is a great large spiral staircase, the museum covers the story of the city and of course information about the Beatles. The museum has so many different displays, if you visit look up at the ceiling as there as also some nice displays on the ceiling.

The trip around the various museums by the Albert dock was very interesting and we did really enjoy our visit, you could easily spend a whole day in the museums especially if you read and take in everything on display. The whole Albert dock site is beautiful, i did visit the Albert dock over 15 years ago, but I cant remember really anything about that visit other than the weather map that was floating in the dock for the itv morning show gmtv. If you are around the Liverpool area and want a nice full family day out it would be worth visiting the museums, as there is something for people of all ages, children may enjoy them as long as they don’t mind a bit of history. There are also some little quiz sheets and gallery trails to keep thee kids occupied.

For full details on events on at the museum see the official website www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk , below are some of the photos I had taken around Albert Dock, Merseyside Maritime Museum, Museum Of Slavery and the Museum Of Liverpool.
