After recently catching up on the Tony Robinson TV Series Walking through history, in the first episode I noticed him looking at a building on part of his walk and it reminded me that I had been there. The day we visited we wasn’t intending to go on a country walk, we had originally planned to go to Gullivers theme park in Matlock, but because of traffic problems on the way we didn’t get their until around midday and at that time all the car parks were full to the brim for the theme park. So we headed away and noticed a sign for a walk in the Derbyshire hills.

We parked up and went down what I think was part of the old High peak junction railway. We journey around I would say 2 miles past old building including what looked like an old engine house. You could go into these buildings. You go through a really nice bridge and see the black rock formation. These are pretty high and very impressive. Along the path is a lovely bench that you can see in one of my photos below.

I have to admit was a bit of a tiring walk and with the kids as well, though they did enjoy it as the views from the path going down are really spectacular. You can see past the sheep pastures the old house in distance of Richard Arkwright who owned several cotton mills in late 1700’s Including Cromford Mill. The first house is a pale white one and normal brick building, then if you look to the left there is a larger mansion that he built, as this area was well known for the cotton industry.

The trip to here was a few years ago, but could remember most of the walk as was a really enjoyable day out, even though wasn’t the place we intended to visit. Below are some of the photos I had taken on that day, sorry for the quality was on an older camera.
