Last year we went on holiday to lakeland, South lake district Cumbria, and we visited a few places around the area that I wrote about, but hadn’t wrote about Beatrix potter world, so hope you find this delayed review of this attraction informative and interesting.

Beatrix Potter World is located at Bowness-on-Windermere, it is located across the road from the main car park in the town, access is up some stairs from the main road or round the corner is a gentle hill for anyone that has problems walking up the steps. The admission prices are Adults £6.75, Children £3.50, Senior Citizens £5.75 or a Family Ticket £18.00, though before we went we found a online discounted family ticket online that we had to print off before going. I cant remember the site now that we got the voucher from but do a search and you will find offers. The opening times are most days 11am to 5:30pm (4:30pm Winter time). The attraction was opened in 1991 and in 2010 was voted the best large attraction in Cumbria.

Upon entrance to the attraction you go into a small cinema room that shows a short film about the life of Beatrix Potter (Mrs Heelis) the film was around 15 minutes long and I found it very informative. Once the film has finished you go through the door to the main displays all are set out with the different tales so you go thorough: The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck, Mr Tod, Pigling bland, Mrs Tittlemouse, The tale of Squirrel Nutkin, Fierce bad rabbit, Mrs tiggy-winkle, two bad mice, The story of Miss Moppet, The pie & the patty-pan, Tom Kitten, The tales of Johnny Town-Mouse & Samuel Whiskers, Flopsy Bunnies, Jeremy Fisher, The Tailor of Gloucester, The Tale of little pig Robinson, Timmy Tiptoes Applely Dapply’s & Cecily Parsleys Nursery rhymes, Benjamin Bunny, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, Ginger and Pickles.

Each of the section of all of the tales are highly details models and displays on some you have to look carefully as you do miss some great details within the displays. Some of the details are within displays of displays, if you get what I mean and are small highly crafted items or figures. I would recommend if going with children or even a adult there is a little quiz that you can do, you get a few sheets with different question on and have to find thing or items, or other details within the displays. This also goes into the small walled garden were you have to find little models of field mice or words engraved in the wood or stone. Also in the Peter Rabbit Garden is a great statue called “The enchanted world of Beatrix Potter” by Andrew Bennet

There is a Virtual Walks section that has three different displays that you can intact with and see around the place where Beatrix potter lived hill top farm in the lake district, also around different areas and access information about each of these place. Within the same room is the timeline of the life of Beatrix Potter and shows the important years and dates of her life and the writing of each of the Tales books.

This is a great attraction to visit you will spend at least an hour looking round, it seems with the details of the characters of the books and the landscapes that surround them with great detail seems very magical and myself really did enjoy looking around and had a great time, the kids also did enjoy the visit, even though they all hadn’t really heard of Beatrix potter, Peter rabbit books etc, though since then we have got a great book “The Ultimate Beatrix Potter by DK” as after the visited they really enjoyed it and the official souvenir guide book even though interesting isn’t that great. There is a gift shop where you can buy the normal items that are more expensive as they have there logo on etc, though are some great items of glassware, pottery etc with prices not that bad. Downstairs is a largish Tea room serving tea’s, coffee cakes et, not sure of prices as didn’t check.

I would also recommend looking around the town of Bowness-on-Windermere as it is a very nice town with some great little shops and the harbour that does have some boat trips on Lake Windermere. We did all enjoy the visit to this attraction and if we wasn’t to far away again I would definitely visit again as great value for money and a enjoyable experience.
