Sun Newspaper Lego Offer 2011

The Sun & News of the world papers were giving away free lego toys each day between May 14th and May 22rd 2011, you could collect the Lego models from either WHSmiths or Toysrus using the cut-out token in the paper, There was 9 different Lego models to collect from four different ranges Starwars, Pirates of the Caribbean, Ninjago & Pharaohs Quest, it was a good offer as the total cost if you didn’t normally buy the papers was £4.70. Though the one thing I found as first the nearest WHSmiths to me was about 5 miles way so some days had to make a special journey to get them as not like the offers with the lego toys last year in the Daily mirror you could collect the tokens and send off for them paying postage and packaging costs. You also had to make sure you got there early as most days I was in queues of at least 20 plus people in front of me just getting the papers and that was only with 15mins of the shop opening.

The models that were given away are as follows:

30054 – Starwars AT-ST
30051 – Star Wars Mini X-Wing
30130 – Pirates of the Caribbean Mini black pearl
30131 – Pirates of the Caribbean Jack Sparrows boat with minifig
30080 – Ninjago Ninja Glider with White figure
30083 – Ninjago Dragon Flght with Red minifig
30081 – Ninjago Skeleton Copter with minifig
30091 – Pharaohs Quest Desert Rover with minifig
30090 – Pharaohs Quest Desert Glider / Plane With minifig pilot

As always with these offers they are first great value for money if you don’t normally buy that daily paper, even with the cost of travel etc, and they are basic models, all the models I found very easy to build as you would expect, the only one I was kind of disappointed with was the Ninja glider as mainly the Ninja minfig with just a few parts to make up the sword glider backpack. But again you cant complain as they were free.

The new Ninjago range to me as no real appeal, I really did like the mini X-Wing fighter as this small set comprised of a fair few bricks. The two pirates of the Caribbean models are nice as well, especially with the Jack Sparrow minifig and the rum bottle.

I mainly get these sets just to take individual photos to post on here, I always try to make the take the photos with a theme that normally fits the model, I know for the keen eyed people out there on the ninjago sets I put the wrong figures with the models for the photos, I had realised until after I had edited the pictures. I know the newspapers have to do offer like this as we don’t buy daily papers like we use to, I know I don’t anymore even with getting the papers for the offer to be honest I just skimmed through the paper and then went in the recycling. But im glad they do as it means I can build some little lego models for next to no money 🙂

Though the other week while getting one of the Lego toys on offer in Toys r us they are doing the character building Doctor sets, these are like Lego and the bricks are compatible, they are the official licensed products from the BBC, there are only three sets at £10 each so did buy them, see my verdict on these HERE (coming soon)

Note:

In March 2013 the Lego group ended their partnership with the Sun newspaper to give away promotional lego packs that they have been doing for the last 2 years. This conencided with a lobbying group about banning page 3. In August 2013 the daily mail started doing promotional lego sets with their newspaper.
